Full well defined lips are very attractive. In addition to having a pleasing appearance, full lips appear youthful.
Unfortunately, as we age our lips "thin". This has a detrimental cosmetic effect, and gives the face the appearance of aging.
Some people have a significant lip asymmetry. The asymmetry may exist between the upper and lower lip or the right side and the left side of the lip. In either case, most people are self conscious about this and will attempt various camouflaging techniques to "correct" the asymmetry.
There are several techniques utilized to enhance the lips or correct an asymmetry. Historically, fat injections were frequently used. Older techniques did not prove to give a long term result. Consequently, the technique of fat injection (lipoinfiltration) diminished in frequency. Utilizing newer techniques of micro lipoinfiltration has led to better results that are long lasting.
Dermal fat grafts and Alloderm implants give good results and are long lasting. Neither will cause an allergic or a foreign body reaction as other forms of lip augmentation may.
Since dermal fat grafts are your own tissue, there is no risk of rejection or an allergic reaction. Alloderm is human collagen, which also elicits no allergic reaction as the older forms of porcine collagen did.
The procedure can be done in a physician's office and your lips will be swollen for several days
