Ear Surgery

In our society, protruding ears can often be the cause of ridicule in children and adults. At Destin Plastic Surgery, we offer ear surgery (otoplasty) for children and adults, many of whom have altered the way they wear their hair – including young women who avoid wearing their hair up – to avoid exposing their ears.

Dr. Burden can offer help to those who wish to correct this trait. Protruding ears can be corrected surgically with a procedure known as an otoplasty, also called ear surgery.

For more information about ear surgery, request a consultation online to meet with Dr. Burden or call our office at (850) 654-1194. We provide first-class services for patients from surrounding cities like Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach, Miramar Beach, Niceville, and Panama City who choose otoplasty in Destin, Florida. People from neighboring states and international locations also travel to our practice to have their surgeries performed by Dr. Burden.

Improvements From Ear Surgery

Although many people think that the ear is abnormally large, it is not. It is the shape of the ear that needs to be revised. See the dramatic transformation Dr. Burden has performed on the patient below and the difference it made.

The protruding ear is created from a lack of the correct shape of the folds of the ear. The ear may be prominent or appear overly large due to excess protrusion from the side of the head due to an enlarged area of cartilage around the external auditory canal. Once the shape of the folds and projection of the folds are corrected, the ear appears normal.

Recovery After Ear Surgery

For our young patients, the main concern is the level of pain associated with the procedure. Ear surgery is not extremely painful. Pain is usually well controlled with pain medications and resolves in the first 24 to 48 hours. The swelling and bruising from the procedure is greatest for the first 7 to 10 days, after which it will diminish. The bruising usually resolves within 10 to 14 days. A special garment and dressing are worn for the first week to protect the ear.

Following surgery, the dramatic results can be seen in our patient photos.
